Comparison of criminal behaviour development in the CR with trends in rich countries
Pokorný, Petr ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Polák, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis explores crime development in rich countries and compares it with crime development in the Czech Republic. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to statistically verify thoughts discussed in The Economist magazine about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries. In the first part of the thesis, terms related to crime are defined. Subsequently, rich countries are deter- mined. In the second part, the crime development in the rich countries is explored through a fixed effect model estimation of panel data. In the third part, crime de- velopment in the Czech Republic is analyzed by using a simple regression model and an autoregressive model. In the final part of the bachelor thesis, an econometric model analyzes factors that generally affect crime, especially wealth of countries. The arguments about the downward trend in crime development in rich countries are supported by statistical examination. 1
Sibling Rivalry and Characteristics of Marriage
Klepetko, Tomáš ; Bauer, Michal (advisor) ; Votápková, Jana (referee)
Parents are involved in their children's marriage decisions in a large part of developing world. Resources are scarce, so sibling structure may affect individual marriage and human capital outcomes. Previous literature focused mainly on timing of marriage and education. The objective of this thesis is to test several hypotheses, concerning sibling structure effects on wider range of such characteristics, as spousal quality, domestic violence, polygamy and wealth. In general, we explore the hypothesis that in countries with arranged marriage tradition, women, whose next-youngest sibling is female, are disadvantaged to women, whose next-youngest sibling is male. The hypothesis is empirically tested, using data from five countries in Sub- Saharan Africa. The results show consistent sibling structure effects on early marriage and childbearing across the countries. The effects on education, spousal quality, domestic violence and wealth are less robust. No effect on literacy and polygamy was found. Keywords Sibling Rivalry, Marriage, Childbirth, Education, Spousal Quality, Domestic Violence, Polygamy, Wealth 1
Czech Wealth Inequality
Popelková, Kristýna ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Mareš, Jan (referee)
This paper delivers a complex picture of Czech household wealth. The main emphasis is placed on the role of wealth inequality, which is studied with the use of available data. The results suggest that the inequality in the Czech Republic is quite tangible and rather above-average in European context. Currently, the disparities in wealth holdings are further deepening due to expansion of lower and upper classes on behalf of middle class and wealth concentration in the hands of high net worth individuals. Income inequality commonly studied in empirical literature is lower than wealth inequality, the main source of this difference is housing wealth, which constitutes a dominating asset class in household wealth portfolio. Composition of both assets and liabilities is quite stable over time, currency and deposits are the leading form of financial wealth holdings and mortgage loans are the primary instrument responsible for households' indebtedness. Saving by Czech households is decreasing which raises concerns about the future of welfare-state structures that are under pressure of ongoing demographic trends, such as population aging and stagnation. In particular, state-funded pension system, whose unsustainability was detected, is an emerging issue and requires attention of policy authorities. Powered by TCPDF...
Wealth in the Gospel of Luke
Vlk, Jaromír ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to impart a comprehensive view of the topic of "wealth," as presented by Luke in his gospel. The first chapter provides a general view of the notion of property and wealth, as passed on to us first by the Old Testament (OT) and subsequently by the New Testament (NT). The following chapter deals with a narrower selection of texts followed in the third chapter by the main part of this thesis - a detailed linguistic and literary analysis ("exegesis"). The selected texts comprise a set of several parables that touch upon the theme of "property" (as well as attitudes towards it). These are, in particular, the parable of the rich man and the barns (L 12,13-21), the parable of the lost coin. (L 15,8-10), the parable of the prodigal son (L 15,11-32), the parable of the dishonest steward (L 16,1-9) and also the parable of the rich man and Lazarus (L 16,19-31). The fourth chapter not only encapsulates Luke's view of wealth, but also mentions the antithesis of wealth, namely poverty. The following chapter focuses on the term "God's kingdom" and its relationship to the material goods of this world. As the Gospel of Luke is often combined with the Acts of the Apostles to coalesce into one great composition, the last chapter is devoted to the relationship of the first Christian...
Children's perception of poverty and wealth in the context of media representations
Mňuková, Dominika ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
This thesis explores how children perceive extreme manifestations of social inequalities - poverty and wealth, and what role do media and media representations play in this process. Based on the literature, it is focusing on media construction of reality, media representations, and social inequalities in general, at the same time it deals with poverty and wealth in the context of perception and media representations, and it also explores the relationship between children and media. Furthermore, by analyzing the results of interviews with children the thesis directly examines how they perceive poverty and wealth and what role do media play in this process. The main finding concerning the social inequalities is that most children perceive them as legitimate and to justify them they use the method of naturalization or/and romanticization of poverty. The main finding concerning the media influence is that media affect children subconsciously and that their thoughts and attitudes to poverty and wealth correspond with media representations of the same in the media production for children.

Vrabec, Václav ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Ondruš, Vítězslav (referee)
Wealth, well-being and the standard of living of the population are among the most important topics of economic policy and statistics. This diploma thesis deals with statistical concepts of wealth measurement, especially the wealth of households. The aim of the thesis is to introduce various indicators that deal with the mentioned issues. This thesis will describe Gross Domestic Product, Household Consumption, EU-SILC Survey, or Alternative Indicators Assessing the Living Standard of the Population. The most important indicator characterizing the wealth of households will be the net worth of households. On the presented indicators I will describe the development of wealth of households in the Czech Republic since 1993. Another part of the thesis is focused on describing the relationship between net worth and other indicators of wealth through cointegration analysis of time series. In this cointegration analysis, the ADL model and the EC model will be used. The last part of the thesis is aimed at the international comparison of the wealth of households within selected European countries. For this comparison will be use a cluster analysis to build clusters of states with a similar household wealth.
Moments of Surprise and Reversal in Selected Parables of the Gospel according to Luke
Najbrtová, Michaela ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Pavlík, Jiří (referee)
This thesis concerns with moments of surprise and moments of reversal in selected texts of the Gospel according to Luke: in parables introducing "one rich man". Initially it considers parable as a phenomenon theoretically, presents special emphasises of Luke's theology, outlines period of Jesus and of Luke, and deals with rhetoric and rhetorical criticism. It detects moments of surprise and of reversal in selected parables, and proves their significance using elements of rhetorical analysis. It approaches parables within their immediate frame, and within Jesus' particular speech in its entirety as well, as it is presented in the Gospel of Luke. Thesis detects their internal connection and their connection with the complex of the Gospel. It presents the capture of the theme and its shift in the subsequent parables, being aware of the metonymic density of the parables and of their form and subject matter interconnected in selected texts to impressive effect, in the very moments of surprise and of reversal.
